Introduction
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 40 kms from Thodupuzha. It is also known as Eravikulam National Park. The sanctuary spreads from Thodupuzha to Udumpanchola in Idukki region. Elephant is the special attraction of sanctuary. The Government is planning for operating different types of tours for sightseeing. Similarly, a resort is also being proposed for the visitors. The wildlife sanctuary can be reached from all prominent destinations of Kerala and includes the following; From Kochi - 65kms, Thekkady - 60kms, Munnar - 50kms, Ernakulam - 57kms, Neriyamangalam - 22kms, Vellathooval - 33kms, Thalassery - 35kms. The best time to visit the sanctuary is September and October. Don't miss the breath taking view of the sanctuary situated 7000sq ft above the sea level.

A visit to the idukki wildlife sanctuary will paint your eyes green. The wildlife population is covered with animals like mammals, Elephants, Bison, Sambhar, Deer, Wild Dogs, Jungle Cats, Tiger, Wild Boar, etc., rare reptiles like King cobra and thousands of non-poisonous snakes, birds include bulbul, peacock, woodpecker, kingfisher, laughing trush, etc., The sanctuary has got a large variety of flora and fauna. Major wildlife attractions include Herons, Drongoes, Egrets, Teals, hundreds of species rare birds, etc., And you can also see hundreds of birds dwelling and singing in the interior regions of the sanctuary.
The other major attraction is more than half of the world population of the endangered Nilgiri's Tahr that stays in the dense green sanctuary. Idukki wild life sanctuary can be reached by all modes of transport.
By Road: Road transport from all destinations of Kerala operated by both private and Government transports.
By Rail: The Nearest Railway stop is Thalassery. Idukki is situated at a distance of about 35kms away from the railway stop and the sanctuary can also be reached through Ernakulam railway station.
By Air: Kozhikode Airport is the only nearby airport located at a distance of 113kms from the Sanctuary. Private Call taxis can be hired to reach from railway station or airport.
