The worst thing that can happen is if your holiday or vacation plans become ruined because of a vehicle breaking down. Make sure you pay close attention to your car, truck, motorcycle, or any other vehicle before leaving for the holidays. Do a thorough check on all routine items for your vehicle. This includes checking the oil, transmission, windshield wiper, and break fluid. Do not go cheap on car battery prices because over time a more reliable and quality car battery will last longer even though they cost a little bit more than cheap generic car batteries.
Most people will wait until something breaks before they replace it. It is also ridiculous how many people out there will drive their car until it breaks down even though the check engine light has been on for the past 20,000 miles. Again, the worst thing that can happen is if your vehicle breaks down in the middle of nowhere while you are on a trip for the holidays. Make sure to check all hoses for signs of wear or tear. Hoses should be checked periodically because you never know when a hose is going to burst. If you live in a sunny area where it rarely rains, make sure you check your windshield wipers to make sure they are still in tip top shape.
The next thing you should check is your light bulbs. Have someone stand behind your vehicle and make sure both turn signal works as well as your brake lights. A lot of vehicles out there usually have one brake light burnt out. It is rare but sometimes if people neglect their car long enough, both brake lights will be dead. This is very dangerous because people will not be able to see if you are slowing down or not. Bulbs should be replaced when they are burnt our or dim. Do the same checks for your headlights both high beam and low beam. It is also wise to carry fuses in your car. Fuses are cheap and can be found at most stores for only a few dollars.
Tires are another aspect of the vehicle that most people seem to neglect. Check the tread marks on the tire to make sure they are in good shape. If the two front tires are unevenly worn down then you may need to have your alignment checked and adjusted. It may also be time to rotate your tires. This means moving the front ones to the back and the back tires to the front.
If you are traveling out of state you may experience weather that is not common to your home town. For example, in southern California it never snows. If a Californian is driving to somewhere where they might snow they may be ill prepared for the weather. Things that Californian may need are chains for your tires. Be sure you are prepared for all types of situations. It may also be wise to carry a survival kit. A survival kit can include but are not limited to flash lights with new batteries, flares, food, water, first aid kit, car jack, spare tire, gas can, blankets, among other things you can think of that you might need.
